“Gas station”
Gas Station was done after the 1940, Edward Hopper´s painting, “Gas”. In this work, Hopper paints a gas station on what seems to be a very quiet road. No cars, silence, just a man closing the business for the day. Even though the painting is full of elements (the trees, the gas pumps, the store, the road, the man), it carries in it a sense of emptiness that pushes everything else to the back, it seemed to me.
My curiosity was pinched by the man and this sense of loneliness. Who was he? Was he happy? How was his house? Was there someone else around? How was the business going? From my perspective, it seemed like an uneventful life. Not out of resignation but rather out of contentment and at peace with it.
